NFPA / IBC Fire Safety
Compliance for Turnstiles

NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and the International Building Code mandate specific requirements for all access control systems in egress pathways. Our products meet all applicable fire safety standards.

Critical Safety Requirement

Non-compliant access control systems in egress pathways can invalidate building occupancy permits and create significant liability in emergency situations. All turnstiles in egress paths must comply with NFPA 101 and IBC requirements.

NFPA / IBC Requirements for Turnstiles

Fail-safe operation

All turnstiles in egress pathways must fail in the open position upon power failure, ensuring unobstructed egress during emergencies.

Breakaway panels

Glass or solid panels must be designed to break away under emergency crowd pressure, providing an additional egress path.

Emergency override

Manual emergency override must be accessible to authorized personnel to immediately open all lanes simultaneously.

Maximum 30-inch height restriction

Turnstiles in required egress paths must not exceed 30 inches in height unless equipped with compliant breakaway mechanisms.

Egress capacity calculation

The combined capacity of all turnstile lanes must meet the required egress capacity for the occupant load of the space.

Pre-Certified for Fire Safety

All Turnstile Security Systems products include factory-installed fail-safe mechanisms, breakaway panels where required, and emergency override systems that comply with NFPA 101 and IBC requirements. Our installation team works with your fire marshal and building inspector to ensure full compliance.
